About This Tool
A well-fitting men's dress shirt is the foundation of any sharp outfit, but proper sizing goes beyond picking S, M, or L. Dress shirts are sized by neck and sleeve measurements, and this calculator converts your body measurements into precise sizing with fit recommendations for your build. Pair it with our Suit Size Estimator for a complete formalwear fit.
How to Use
Measure your neck at the base where a collar sits, arm length from center-back of neck to wrist bone, and chest at the widest point. Enter measurements in inches and select your build. The calculator provides neck size, sleeve length, recommended fit, and general letter size. For matching accessories, use our Belt Size Finder.
FAQ
How do I properly measure my neck for a dress shirt?
Wrap a soft tape around the base of your neck where a collar sits, just below the Adam's apple. Keep it snug but not tight - you should fit two fingers between tape and neck. Round up to the nearest half inch. Measuring too tightly leads to an uncomfortable collar. Our Suit Size Estimator uses a similar measurement approach for jackets.
What is the difference between slim fit, regular fit, and fitted shirts?
Slim fit has about 2 inches of chest ease with higher armholes. Regular fit has 4 inches of ease and a straighter cut. Fitted (tailored) falls between with 3 inches and light tapering. Athletic fit adds shoulder room while tapering at the waist. GQ's fit guide is a good visual reference for these differences.
Are non-iron shirts worth it?
Non-iron shirts use a chemical treatment to prevent wrinkles. They are great for travel and low-maintenance wardrobes but feel slightly stiffer. Higher-end brands use better treatments that feel more natural. For a balance, look for "wrinkle-resistant" which reduces ironing by 80%. Our Capsule Wardrobe Builder recommends dress shirts as a wardrobe essential.
