Body Roundness Index Calculator

Calculate your Body Roundness Index (BRI) with visual explanation and health context.

Your total height. For imperial, enter inches (5'10" = 70 inches).

Measure at the narrowest point of your torso, typically at the navel. Relax and do not suck in.

Choose whether your measurements are in inches or centimeters.

About This Tool

The Body Roundness Index (BRI) estimates body fat distribution using just your height and waist circumference. Unlike BMI, BRI captures how round your midsection is relative to your height, making it a better predictor of visceral fat and cardiometabolic risk. For a complete body composition picture, pair this with our Body Fat Calculator and TDEE Calculator.

How to Use

Enter your height and waist circumference, then select your unit system. The BRI calculator generates your score, health category, and waist-to-height ratio. Track your BRI over time alongside results from our Body Fat Calculator to monitor visceral fat reduction as you improve your diet and exercise.

FAQ

How is BRI different from BMI?
BMI divides weight by height squared, treating all mass the same. A muscular man can score high despite being lean. BRI uses waist circumference and height to model your body as an ellipse, capturing central adiposity (belly fat). This makes it a better indicator of dangerous visceral fat. Two men with identical BMIs can have very different BRI scores.
What are the accuracy limitations of BRI?
BRI is a field estimate, not a clinical scan like DEXA or MRI. It does not distinguish subcutaneous from visceral fat, though waist circumference correlates well with visceral fat in research. A very muscular man may score slightly elevated. For most men, BRI is more informative than BMI for health risk assessment.
How should I measure my waist properly?
Stand upright, feet shoulder-width apart. Use a flexible tape measure placed horizontally at navel level. Breathe out naturally — do not suck in. The tape should be snug without compressing skin. Measure twice and average the result. For consistent tracking, always measure in the morning before eating. Use the same technique for our Body Fat Calculator.
